The idea of transformation of the butterfly corkscrew arises from the complication of the object itself, an unstable object, which has been transformed due to the needs seen by the designer.

This object is aimed at an audience with reduced maneuverability & loss of strength and control in the hands.

The study of the butterfly corkscrew carried out extracted several negative views in this regard. And the target was to transform it into a more easy-to-use piece.

This project has a special character for me, since it was aimed to help my grandfather, who suffers from this disability on a daily basis, and is a wine-lover user.
The detailed study of the object allowed the following changes to be made, based on the needs of the target audience:

-The buckle: It was replaced by a more ergonomic grip, whose design provides greater manageability: a concavity to accommodate the thumb and a extrusion for the palm, thus managing to apply a greater force taking advantage of the entire hand. Designed for both left and right handed.

-The shape: Fits with the wine bottle, providing a greater hold and stability. A hand grip, similar to the one used in elderly's showers.

-A bigger crank with better handling. (The original butterfly corkscrew has two handles, if the same force is not applied to each handle, the object does not work and the cork cannot be removed.). In that order, the force to apply will be lower.
